The Grand Rail Line

The flagship mega-project of The Forgelands: a continent-spanning railway designed to bind every district into one functioning civilization.

The Grand Rail Line

The Grand Rail Line is the defining project of the current era of The Forgelands: a continuous powered rail network intended to connect every settled district into a single logistical whole. When complete, the line will link Savanna Villa, the MacGruder Family Homestead, the Spruce Logging Camp, the industrial east around the Tortuga Monolith, and every district founded after them.

Purpose

The Forgelands runs on the movement of materials: timber south to north, ore east to west, crops in every direction. All of it currently moves on foot. The Rail Line replaces footpaths with scheduled, repeatable transport, and in doing so converts a collection of outposts into a civilization.

Route and Phases

Phase one runs from Savanna Villa north to the homestead, following the old road; survey and grading are complete and the Villa station footprint is laid. Phase two turns east toward the Tortuga Monolith and must cross Scalloped Gulch, where the bridge at the canyon narrows will be the largest single structure on the line. Phase three extends south to the logging camp's collection pond. Spurs to the Dripstone Copper Pit and later districts are surveyed but unscheduled.

Supply Chain

Powered rail is the bottleneck. Iron and gold flow from the foundry, brick for the stations from the Brickworks Empire, and the copper roofing specified for every station awaits the foundry's copper wing.

Field Notes

The line follows the terrain rather than tunneling through it, by deliberate choice. A railway you can see from a ridgeline is an argument that order has arrived. The Archives expect to be citing this record for years.
