ActiveTortuga Monolith
A colossal turtle-backed rock formation in the eastern districts, now the site of the Tortuga Foundry and the heart of Forgelands industry.
Tortuga Monolith
The Tortuga Monolith is a colossal freestanding rock formation in the eastern districts, named for its profile: a great domed back rising from the plains like a turtle surfacing through stone. It is the most visible landmark in The Forgelands, sighted from the rim of Scalloped Gulch and, on clear days, from the upper floors of Savanna Villa.
Known Role
The Monolith is the anchor of the industrial east. The Tortuga Foundry is built directly into its stone skirt, drawing on the deep iron seams beneath the formation, and the Dripstone Copper Pit lies a short distance further east. What was once the loneliest landmark in the world is becoming its busiest district.
Geology
The formation rises roughly ninety blocks above the surrounding plains, a mass of stone, andesite, and exposed ore faces. Survey work during foundry construction found the interior threaded with natural caves, several of which have been incorporated into the foundry's storage levels rather than sealed.
Historical Notes
The Tablet of Factions was recovered from a sealed chamber high on the Monolith's northern face, reachable only by scaffolding the cliff. The chamber predates every known structure in The Forgelands, and the Archives have no explanation for it. The chamber has been left as found, minus the Tablet, and access is restricted.
Field Notes
Industrial development has been deliberately kept to the Monolith's base. The dome itself remains unbuilt and is intended to stay that way. Some landmarks should remain landmarks.
