Dripstone Copper Pit
A terraced open-pit copper mine sunk into a dripstone cave system, feeding the copper demands of an increasingly copper-hungry civilization.
Overview
The Dripstone Copper Pit is a terraced open-pit mine cut down into a massive dripstone cave system east of the Tortuga Monolith. The site was discovered when a surface copper vein turned out to be the cap of something much larger: a cave network threaded with copper ore from the surface down to the deepslate boundary.
Purpose
Copper consumption in The Forgelands keeps rising. Lightning rods, spyglasses, roofing for the rail stations, oxidized accent work on nearly every major build, and the standing demands of the Copperlings faction all draw from the same supply. The Pit centralizes extraction in one engineered site instead of scattering strip mines across the landscape.
Current Status
Four terraces are cut and producing. The dripstone formations are being preserved wherever the ore allows, leaving the lower terraces studded with natural stone columns that double as structural supports. A water-ladder shaft handles descent and return. The planned rail spur to the Tortuga Foundry's copper wing is surveyed but unbuilt.
Field Notes
The pointed dripstone on the lower levels is a documented workplace hazard. Two falls, zero fatalities, one full set of armor durability lost. Railings are now mandatory below terrace three.
The Copperlings have requested formal visitation rights to the Pit. The request described it as a pilgrimage.
