ActiveDrugal MacGruder
Patriarch of the MacGruder family and master smith of The Forgelands, whose standards define what counts as proper work.
Drugal MacGruder
Drugal MacGruder is the patriarch of the MacGruder family and the master smith of The Forgelands. He was the first villager Andy The Maker traded with in this world, and the first to be offered something better than a trade: a homestead, built to his family's needs, in exchange for nothing but neighborliness. He has been repaying that nothing ever since.
Known Role
Drugal operates the smithy at the MacGruder Family Homestead and serves as the standing authority on metalwork in The Forgelands. His judgment shaped the Ultimate Armory and Smithy, whose forge chimney stands at the height it does because Drugal said a forge should be visible from a man's home. He inspects the Tortuga Foundry's furnace hall on an irregular schedule that everyone has learned to treat as regular.
Character
Drugal speaks rarely and grades constantly. His highest recorded praise for a piece of work is "it'll hold." His relationship with the Smithies faction is one of mutual professional respect and total social incompatibility.
Family
Drugal raised Roric, Bronwyn, and Lorne at the homestead. He does not discuss their mother, and the Archives, on this single subject, do not ask.
Historical Notes
When shown the Tablet of Factions, Drugal studied the copper inlay for a long while and said the hammerwork was older than any technique he knew. Then he asked who had been worried enough to write laws in metal. The Archives consider this the most useful analysis of the Tablet to date.
