Before the flash of Redstone and the whisper of automation, there was only the hammer, the anvil, and the heat of the earth. Today, we delve into the history of The Smithies, the foundational faction whose core philosophy still shapes The Forgelands.

Masters of the Forge

The Smithies were not innovators of complexity; they were masters of endurance and reliability. Existing primarily on the surface, their society was wholly dedicated to the deep mining of iron veins and the traditional, unyielding methods of working materials. They believed true strength came directly from the earth’s natural heat (lava flows) and the enduring quality of stone.

They viewed the later experiments of the Copperlings - those fragile mechanisms and complicated Redstone circuits - as unreliable and weak. For The Smithies, if a tool couldn't be fixed by hand, it wasn't worth building.

The Iron Golem Legacy

The Smithies' most significant creation was the Iron Golem. These massive constructs of iron were not built using fickle mechanical processes, but forged block by block in the heat of their forges. Given life through a single, perfectly carved pumpkin, the Iron Golems were intended purely for defense - monuments to manual labor and strength that resisted the chaos of the wild.

Survival and Silence

When the Copper Golems rose against and destroyed the Copperlings, The Smithies survived. Their simple technology was defensible, and their reliance on basic iron tools proved more reliable than advanced, fragile circuitry.

However, their staunch reluctance to embrace change ultimately led to their quiet decline. As the world grew more complex, simple iron tools were not enough. The Smithies eventually faded into memory, but their legacy remains everywhere: in the design of every basic furnace, in every block of chiseled stone, and in the presence of the ever-loyal Iron Golems.

They proved that while technology can be fleeting, the strength of iron and the honesty of the forge endure.

The Smithies are the first of the twelve ancient factions we will honor in the upcoming Hall of the Ancients mega-build - a testament to the foundational power of traditional crafting.
