ActiveThe Twelve Ancient Factions
The Forgelands' ancient civilization was built from twelve factions. Four are known in detail — the Smithies, Copperlings, Agrarians, and Mystics — and eight remain buried, waiting to be uncovered through ruins, expeditions, and excavation.
Long before Andy The Maker raised the first walls of his own civilization, The Forgelands belonged to an ancient society built from twelve factions. Each was a culture in its own right — a way of working stone, copper, soil, or hidden craft — and together they shaped the ruins, tools, and traditions Andy still digs out of the ground today.
Of the twelve, four are known in detail. The other eight are real in the world's history but are not yet understood. They are meant to be uncovered slowly, through ruins, archaeology, expeditions, and the slow accumulation of evidence — the same way Andy uncovers everything else in The Forgelands.
The Four Known Factions
These four are the developed pillars of Forgelands faction lore. Each has its own records under Lore and Factions.
- The Smithies — stone, iron, durability, and practical infrastructure. Forgecraft and Iron Golems are their signature. See The Enduring Legacy of the Smithies.
- The Copperlings — copper, redstone logic, automation, and powered rail. They built the first Copper Golems — and that ambition became their undoing. See The Tragedy of the Copperlings.
- The Agrarians — farming, animals, sustainability, clay, bees, and villages. Of all the ancient factions, their living continuity reached furthest into the present. See Beyond the Forge: How the Agrarians Outlived the Ancients.
- The Mystics — potions, enchantment, swamps, hidden knowledge, and witch lineages, with possible Pillager collaboration. The faction the others distrusted. See The Hidden Arts: The Mysterious Rise of the Mystics.
The Eight Unknown Factions
The remaining eight factions are part of the world's true history, but their names, symbols, and stories have not yet surfaced. This is by design: The Forgelands is a forever-world that reveals itself through play. New ruins, new expeditions, new biomes, and new evidence will name these factions when the time comes — and not before.
Until then, the gaps in the record are themselves part of the lore. A civilization of twelve factions that we only half understand is more honest, and more interesting, than one invented all at once.
The Copper Golems
The Copper Golems were built by the Copperlings to manage the heat and labor of the deep smelteries. They are not one of the twelve cultural factions — they are the Copperlings' creation, and ultimately their downfall. Whether the surviving, oxidized golems ever become a culture of their own is a question the ruins have not yet answered.
