Forgelands Episode 1: A Shelter on the Plateau
The founding episode of The Forgelands series, and the first entry in what would become these Archives.
Episode Summary
Andy The Maker arrives in a new world with a stated intention unusual for him: to stay. After years of expeditions, excavations, and one-life gambles, this world is to be permanent — a forever-survival civilization built from the first block up. The episode covers the first three days: scouting the savanna plateau, the first night's dirt-and-plank shelter, early wood and stone gathering, and the decision that the plateau, with its sightlines and its central position between river, forest, and distant mountains, will be home.
The shelter built in this episode still stands, preserved intact inside the modern Savanna Villa compound.
Notable Moments
- The opening survey from the plateau rim, in which Andy names the world The Forgelands before placing a single block, on the principle that a named place is a place someone is responsible for.
- The discovery of the Whispering Well a short walk from the chosen shelter site — an ancient worked structure in a world that should not have any. Andy circles it twice, listens, says "later," and keeps building. The Archives note that "later" is still pending.
- The first night ambush: two creepers and a skeleton at the unfinished doorway, repelled at a cost of most of the door.
- The closing entry, spoken over the firelit shelter: "Chaos to order. That's the whole plan. Everything else is details."
Archive Notes
This episode is the reference point for the entire Forgelands archive. The plan stated at its close remains, by the Archives' assessment, in effect.
