Andy Returns to The Ancient Lands

More than twenty years ago, Andy sailed away from The Ancient Lands with a ship full of treasure.

Now he is sailing back for a friend.

That difference matters.

The first voyage made Andy's fortune. The return may test everything he learned there.

The First Expedition

Andy first traveled to The Ancient Lands as a younger explorer with Donaldson, one of his oldest friends.

Donaldson was skilled, bold, and often more willing to take risks than Andy. Where Andy studied, Donaldson pushed. Where Andy paused, Donaldson wondered what might happen if they went one room deeper.

That made him dangerous company sometimes.

It also made him one of the best explorers Andy ever knew.

Together, they crossed a world dense with ruins, dungeons, ore spires, cave systems, buried structures, old towers, unfamiliar languages, and evidence of ancient peoples whose histories were scattered across stone and water.

They found wealth there.

Real wealth.

Diamonds, emeralds, totems of undying, deepslate ores, and treasures enough to change the future waiting back at Savanna Villa.

But they also found something larger than treasure.

They found proof that The Ancient Lands were not one lost kingdom.

They were the remains of a whole world of old civilizations.

The Message

The news came through a wandering trader.

Donaldson had returned to The Ancient Lands after receiving a dossier from another trader. The dossier claimed to know the location of a massive Illager treasure cache hidden hundreds, maybe thousands, of years ago.

The rumor placed it inside the empty cauldron of an ancient volcano.

A caldera.

A place where a mountain had once held fire.

Donaldson followed the lead.

Then he vanished.

Local villagers expected him back, but five months passed without word. The message traveled through the Wandering Trader network, across impossible distances, until it reached Andy.

No proof.

No body.

No final note.

Only absence.

For Andy, absence was enough.

Why Andy Has To Go

Andy is not returning because of the cache.

The cache is the trail.

Donaldson is the reason.

Donaldson taught Andy much of what he knows. He was there in the younger days, when the world was wider, the risks felt sharper, and every ruin could change their lives. If Donaldson is trapped, Andy has to find him. If he is hurt, Andy has to reach him. If the Illagers have him, Andy has to know.

And if the Ancient Lands swallowed him, Andy has to follow the marks until the truth comes up from the dark.

That is not treasure hunting.

That is loyalty.

The World Waiting Below

The return will not be simple.

The Ancient Lands are still full of surface ruins, buried houses, drowned halls, lost towers, faction marks, unknown languages, and structures so old they have become part of the terrain.

Andy now has new names for some of what he is seeing.

The Waytowers are surviving surface beacons, marking entrances into the Underways.

The Underways are ancient transportation and trade routes beneath the surface.

The Deep Labyrinths are what some of those routes became after centuries of collapse, repair, expansion, abandonment, and factional reuse.

That matters because Donaldson was following a treasure rumor tied to the Illagers.

And the Illagers knew how to use old places.

They knew how to trap them.

They knew how to hide things in them.

They knew how to turn a forgotten road into a warning.

The Return Begins

Andy returns to The Ancient Lands with more skill than he had the first time.

More caution.

More knowledge.

More responsibility.

But also with more to lose.

The first expedition was about discovery and survival.

This one is about recovery.

A missing friend.

A dangerous dossier.

An ancient volcano.

An Illager cache that may or may not exist.

And beneath it all, the roads of a buried world waiting to be read.

Andy does not know what he will find.

But he knows where he has to go.
